THERE ARE MILLIONS OF STREET DOGS LACKING BASIC VET CARE IN SRI LANKA

UK vet Dr Janey Lowes was backpacking around Sri Lanka in May 2014 when she noticed the plight of the local street dogs. Although there are an estimated 3 million of them, it's not the dogs themselves that are the issue. In fact, street dogs love their freedom and often have a safe place to sleep and a human guardian who feeds them. The real problem is that they don't have access to even the most basic of veterinary care.

WE ARE HERE TO PROVIDE IT

WE WANT TO TRANSFORM THE LIVES OF STREET DOGS WORLDWIDE

We dream of having WECare clinics all over the world, in the areas we're needed most. However, we've currently got our work cut out in Sri Lanka - it's been a far more daunting challenge than we ever anticipated. With a steady stream of severely injured patients coming through our hospital, we need all the support we can get to ensure we're able to be in Sri Lanka for as long as the animals need us.

WE ARE NOT A SHELTER

Street dogs are not stray dogs. It helps to think of them as wild animals. They live freely (and happily!) on the street, with most having a safe place to sleep and a reliable food source. What they’re lacking is access to health care when they need it most, which is where we come in. Roaming dogs have been a part of Sri Lankan culture for generations and we’re not here to change that. This is why we put dogs back into their communities after treatment wherever possible.

SPONSOR A DOG

We put dogs back on the street wherever possible but sometimes it's not safe to do so. In this instance, they'll live in our clinic garden until they're rehomed. Will you sponsor the care of a resident dog until they find their forever home? You'll receive monthly pics and updates on your new furry pal, and sleep tight knowing you're making a real difference to their life.

WE RELY ON YOUR DONATIONS

We are still a small charity, with names to faces. The work we do is so important but we receive no government funding and, as a result, rely heavily on your kind donations. We don’t use the term ‘in desperate need’ lightly, however the need IS here and it is beyond anything you could imagine. Together, we can transform lives and futures.
